Quick start

From signing in to the customer portal to your first question to Jira - in six steps.

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple Silicon or a Windows PC (64-bit), and administrator rights for the installation.
  • Access to your Jira with a personal access token (PAT); JiCo stores it in the keychain (macOS) or in Credential Manager (Windows), not in a file.
  • An AI client: Claude Desktop, Claude Code or GitHub Copilot in VS Code.
  • An account in the customer portal. New customers register and receive a trial licence: seven days, reading and writing, at most three executed write operations per day — enough to experience a proposal and its approval first-hand. A purchased licence has no such daily limit.

In six steps

  • 1. Sign in. Enter your email address in the customer portal; the sign-in link arrives by e-mail and is valid for 15 minutes.
  • 2. Download and install the package. Under JiCo installieren (Install JiCo), download the build for your system (.pkg for macOS, .msi for Windows) and compare the checksum shown next to it.

From here, continue in the browser or in the terminal - both lead to the same result.

  • 3. Set up. After installation JiCo starts by itself and opens the setup in your browser (Windows: Start menu › JiCo). Enter your Jira address, click Store token … - the token goes through a system dialog into the keychain, never through the browser - then tick the projects.
  • 4. Request the licence. In the setup, enter the e-mail address registered in the portal, confirm the fair-use rule, click Request license (confirm by e-mail) and open the link in the e-mail - or, if you are still signed in to the customer portal, confirm right there (Faster without e-mail: confirm in the customer portal). JiCo then installs the licence by itself.
  • 5. Connect your AI client. In the Approval Cockpit, under Settings › Connect to AI client, click Set up automatically for the client you want and restart the client.
  • 6. Approve. Proposals appear in the Approval Cockpit under Approvals, reachable via JiCo › Freigabe (approval) in the menu bar or notification area: read, decide.
  • 3. Set up. jico onboard --jira-url https://jira.your-company.com - enter the token, tick the projects. jico check then shows what your AI client will see at startup.
  • 4. Request the licence. jico license request --sender it@your-company.com --fair-use --pair asks the licence portal and sends a confirmation link to the address registered in the portal; after the click the licence is bound to this installation and installed.
  • 5. Connect. jico connect shows the ready-made entries for Claude Code, Claude Desktop and GitHub Copilot in VS Code and checks existing client configurations. A built-in chat with a local AI model is not available in this version yet - JiCo works with your AI assistant.
  • 6. Approve. jico approvals shows the proposals in the terminal; jico Approval Cockpit opens them in the browser.

What never happens on the way

  • No plain text leaves your machine unredacted - people become placeholders before an AI model sees them.
  • No write access to Jira without your approval (human in the loop), and an approval only holds for the state you saw.
  • JiCo only calls the customer portal when you trigger it: the licence request, Check for update in the settings and - if you switch it on - remote access. What is transferred is technical data such as machine code, installation key, customer number, sender e-mail and signature, never Jira/Confluence content. JiCo requests nothing in the background.

If something is stuck

A note on language

The commands are German words (pruefen, lizenz, freigaben), and so are the program's own texts: JiCo names things in the language of the domain it was built for, and renaming them later would break every script that already exists. This website is available in English; the software itself is not yet. If that is a blocker for you, tell us — support@getjico.com.
